Increasing Death Toll in Bulgaria After Mandatory DRLs

A member in Bulgaria has compiled the stats. In this case, the numbers don't lie and a finger could be pointed at DRLs.

January 2007 was the bloodiest one here in Bulgaria over past 10 years! Since we have mandatory DRL law (from November to the end of February) each next month hits the dark records. I'm not going to say that DRLs are the major cause of this, but what I'm saying is that there is no piece of evidence, that DRLs have increased safety on our roads.

The following statistics might be interesting to you:

  • January 2007 (DRLs): 85 deaths.
    2006-1996 (no DRLs): ??, 70, 57, 63, 44, 72, 39, 60, 72, 71, 83. (First place, we've broken the record!)
  • December 2006 (DRLs): 93 deaths.
    2006-1996 (no DRLs): 79, 79, 81, 88, 62, 103, 98, 86, 84, 79. (Third place, and we've broken the record for last 6 years)
  • November 2006 (DRLs): 93 deaths.
    2006-1996 (no DRLs): 80, 94, 74, 91, 102, 101, 88, 68, 83, 85. (Third place).

The number of registered cars and licensed drivers is nearly equal for each year.
